So I submitted some photos to the OC fair competition and these are the two that passed for the next round of judging. So, we’ll see how that goes. You might get to see some prints over summer in person if you live nearby. It’s really interesting to me how old school the process of the photo contest is. It reminds me of the process in the Italian Renaissance. Like, a region wide competition with prizes awarded, etc. It seems so irrelevant to post-internet culture and art and not at all the way we’re used to experiencing images in our daily lives. Maybe I’ll turn this into a social practice project. STAY TUNED…

Polaroid Negatives by James Doyle
“These are negatives of silver shade polaroids from The Impossible Project that have decomposed and crystalized. They are part of a photograph I’ve taken, but do not function fully as a photograph on their own as much as a visual object. After separating the negative, they are then scanned in an act of re-photography. By erasing their subject matter, I hope raise this question: do more images signify more meaning? While they could suggest a snowy landscape, these negatives convey no visual form and adopt an all over design. The viewer is left to examine other formal qualities, such as texture and space. The art lies somewhere between destroying the original polaroid and disrupting systems of visual communication.”
